GLASGOW — Joseph Hascal Bok Mitchell, 82, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003, as a result of complications from lung cancer. He was born in Glasgow, the son of the late John Hascal and Lera Breeding Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was a graduate of Columbia Military Academy and The Citadel Military College of South Carolina. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Air corps during World War II. As a resident of Elizabethtown, Mr. Mitchell was a business entrepreneur for over 50 years and established with his father, the Firestone Store and Union Oil Company. He served as past president of the Kentucky Petroleum Marketers Association as well as the Elizabethtown Rotary Club. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean Friel Mitchell; sister, Marjorie Mitchell Clarke; daughter, Barbara Mitchell-Wood; sons, Joe and Philip Mitchell; grandson, Joseph Bok Mitchell Jr.; and one great-granddaughter. He is pre-deceased by his brother, John Terry Mitchell of Glasgow. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. at Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Immediately following there will be a reception at The Lodge of Barren River State Park on 31E South. A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
