SMOAK, Joseph Joseph Arnold Richard Smoak, 85, the husband of Alice Ballard, died August 3, 2005, in Portland, OR. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 9, at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Oregon. Mr. Smoak was born December 14, 1919, in Yonges Island, S.C. Mr. Smoak moved to Beaverton in 2001, moving from Texas and prior he lived in South Carolina. He owned and operated his own construction business in Charleston, S.C. He was a Navy veteran serving in the Pacific during World War II. He was a graduate of the Citadel and earned a degree in electrical engineering and was also a member of the Citadel Alumni Association. Survivors include his wife, Alice Smoak, two daughters, Linda Schwartz, and Catherine Eick; son, Richard Smoak; sister, Jerri Wilson; and one grandchild.
