John Stephen Taylor, of Broken Arrow, OK, passed away on May 19, 2015 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. John was born on January 9, 1926 in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania. His proud parents were Walter and Eva Taylor. He spent his childhood in Mt. Lebanon, followed by college at The Citadel and the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. His college years were separated by a 2 year Army enlistment during World War II. He then completed his military years in the US Army Reserves, and retired with the rank of Major.
The majority of his working years were in the field of retail management for large department stores throughout the country. Before retiring, he spent several years as a business professor at Columbia College in Denver, followed by another several years at the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Dept. in Littleton, Colorado.
He enjoyed being active in all of the churches he belonged to, and had a great love of the choir music, both in singing and directing. He was a strong participant in the Shrine for many decades, and that is where he devoted much of his free time. He very much believed in the organization and what it stood for.
John married his high school sweetheart, Anna Elizabeth, on June 23, 1951. They had two children, Lisa Lea Taylor Michels and John Stephen Taylor, Jr.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Lea Taylor Michels; son-in-law Gary Joseph Michels and granddaughter Anna Katrine Michels. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna; son, Steve; parents, Walter and Eva; brother, Walter Jr.; sister, Beatrice.
Memorial contributions may kindly be made to the Akdar Shrine Temple Transportation Fund. Services pending.
