John Robert Germany, Jr. went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 20, 2006. John was born September 17, 1932 in Greenville, MI. John is preceded in death by his wife of 37 years Kristin Merritt Germany. He is survived by his daughter, Lynne Germany Itz and husband Allan; his son John Robert (Rob) Germany, III and wife Mindy; and his daughter Lucie Germany Read and husband Mike. John was blessed with seven wonderful grandkids: Brandon, Cooper, Gracie, Kenzie, Maya, Taylor and Tucker. John served in the Air Force as an instructor pilot (1954 – 1958) and retired as a major from the Air Force Reserves. John retired from CIGNA Financial Services (1997), where he sold life insurance and securities for over thirty years. While active in the industry, he earned the Chartered Life Underwriter (1975) and Chartered Financial Consultant (1982) designations, and served as president of the Houston Chapter of the CLU and ChFC (1981-1982). John joined Rotary in 1959 and was president of the Rotary club of Shaw (1963-1964). He has chaired numerous district committees. He is the recipient of the Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service and is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and a Major Donor. In 1999 he led a Group Study Team to Finland. He is a past President of the Rotary Club of Conroe, and Past Governor, Rotary International District 5910 (2000-2001). In the Rotary year 2003-2004, he received the Rotary Service above Self award from Rotary International. Up until his death, John was serving the Lord as Sr. Vice President of Hunger Plus, Inc., where he traveled worldwide with the mission of feeding hungry people and spreading God’s glory. The memorial service will be held on Wednesday Jan. 25th at 1 pm at First United Methodist Church of Conroe with a reception immediately following. Visitation will be held 5-8pm Jan. 24th at Metcalf Funeral Home in Conroe. In lieu of flowers, we request donations be sent to Hunger Plus, Inc. PO Box 337 Plainview, TX 79073.
