John Ralph Evans, of Stokesdale, NC, born January 8, 1941, to Okel and Martha Evans, passed away surrounded by the family he cherished throughout his life. Raised as an only child, John grew into a man defined by quiet strength, loyalty, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
In 1963, he married Carolyn Holt, beginning a partnership marked by deep commitment and shared purpose. Together they raised three sons—John Ralph Evans, Jr., Jason Paul Evans, and Jeremy Okel Evans—each of whom carries forward his values, his humor, and his steady guidance.
John built a distinguished 39 year career with Jefferson Pilot Corporation, where he served as an insurance executive and ultimately retired as Vice President. His colleagues knew him as a man of integrity, diligence, and calm leadership.
A proud alumnus of The Citadel, John played football during his college years, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. He found joy in coastal fishing, golf, and cheering for his favorite football teams. Yet his greatest fulfillment came from investing in the lives of young people. John was a dedicated volunteer—coaching his sons’ football and baseball teams and serving as Scout Master for their Boy Scout troop. His influence shaped not only his own children but countless others who benefited from his patience, encouragement, and example.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn (nee Holt); his sons John and wife Carolyn (nee Ruppel), Jason and wife Virginia (nee Merkle), and Jeremy and wife Tina (nee Beasley); and his six grandchildren—Haley, Daniel, Samuel, Jackson, Annabelle, and Addison—who brought him immense pride and joy.
His legacy lives on in the family he nurtured, the young people he guided, and the many lives he touched with quiet generosity and steadfast love.
