John Robert “Bob” Wofford Jr., 75, of Gainesville, Ga., passed away on Nov. 21, 2017.
He was born in Memphis, Tenn., on Nov. 4, 1942, to the late John Robert Wofford Sr. and Louise Finley Wofford. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria L. Wofford, and his sister, Gwen W. Hunter.
Bob is a 1960 graduate of Gainesville High and a 1964 graduate of The Citadel. Upon graduation, he proudly served his country as an officer in the US Army and fought in The Vietnam War.
After returning home, he and his father successfully operated Wofford Leather Company in Gainesville. After meeting on a blind date, he married the love of his life, Savannah native, Maria Little Wofford. He and Maria were proud members of the Gainesville First United Methodist Church.
Bob was an active member of the Gainesville community, including serving as President of The Rotary Club of Gainesville from 1983-1984. One of his many accomplishments was becoming a bridge life master. Bob treasured the time he spent with close friends of many years who showed their never-ending love and support.
He is survived by his daughter and her wife, Holly M. Wofford and Viki Cacciatore of Los Angeles, Calif.; his son and daughter-in-law Bret and Jenny Wofford of Hull, Ga.; grandchildren, Cody Wofford, Emma Wofford-Cacciatore and Julia Wofford-Cacciatore.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Citadel Fund, 1717 Moultrie St., Charleston, SC 29409.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held Saturday, Nov. 25, 11 a.m., in the Chapel at Gainesville First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the Church.
As Bob would say, “Roll Tide.”
