It is with great sadness we announce the death of John McDonald Gamble, Jr., husband of Caroline Jeffers Gamble, Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at MUSC. His funeral service will be held graveside Thursday, December 21, 2023, in Bethany Cemetery, 10 Cunnington Avenue, at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel. John was born September 29, 1931, in Jamestown, SC, son of the late John McDonald Gamble, Sr. and Eddie Richbourg Gamble. He moved to Charleston in 1946 and graduated from North Charleston High School in 1949. John enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1950 serving in the Korean War until his term ended in 1954. He then entered The Citadel, January 1955 and graduated May 1958 with a BS in Business Administration. John practiced as a CPA for 43 years. In 1972, he was one of the founding partners of Gamble, Givens & Moody, CPA’s. John was a member of the South Carolina Association of CPA’s, the American Institute of CPA’s, the Estate Planning Council and the Rotary Club of Charleston. He was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran church where he served as Vice President for one year and on the Vestry for several terms. John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Caroline; son, John M. Gamble III (Devon), grandsons: Ryan A. Gamble and Coleman J. Gamble; and niece, Donna L. Gamble (Todd). He was predeceased by his brother, Edward D. Gamble.
