WIGGER, JR., John John (Jack) H. D. Wigger, Jr., 89 of Charleston, died Thursday, June 3, 2004 of natural causes. Mr. Wigger was born in Charleston, February 8, 1915 to the late John H. D. Wigger, Sr. and Marie Garety Wigger. He was a 1933 graduate of Bishop England High School and won the City of Charleston Scholarship to the Citadel Military College where he graduated in 1937. Mr. Wigger went on to Georgetown Law School in 1940 where he earned a Juris Doctor Degree. After law school, Mr. Wigger clerked in the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. He later joined the Anti-Trust Division of the Justice Department. Leaving the Justice Dept., he was assigned to a Special Branch of Military Intelligence at the Pentagon. While at the Pentagon, Mr. Wigger distinguished himself in the outstanding performance of duty and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. He was directly in charge of the group responsible for determining the existence and location of Japanese Army ground units. Mr. Wigger rejoined the Anti-Trust Division in 1946 and handled Anti-Trust trials and appellate cases through the country until his retirement in 1976. He returned to Charleston in 1980. During his retirement, Mr. Wigger, traveled extensively throughout Europe and supported the arts and music in Charleston. He was a member of the University Club of Washington, DC and a life long member of St. Mary s Catholic Church. Mr. Wigger is survived by Kathleen Calder Sottile of Charleston and his god-son, Albert J. Sottile, III and his wife, Caitlin Ewing and their daughter, Luna Grace Sottile of Seattle, Washington. The family will receive friends from 6 8 PM on Sunday, June 6, 2004, with a vigil beginning at 6:00 PM at the MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 150 Wentworth St. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 7, 2004 at 2 PM at St. Mary s Catholic Church at 89 Hasell St. Rite of Committal and Final Commendation will be conducted at St. Lawrence Cemetery following the Mass.
