Colonel Jerry L Records, of Navarre, Fla., died at home in Navarre, Florida, on Saturday May 22, 2021. He retired from active duty service as Base Commander at Eglin Air Force Base in 1986. He was a graduate of the Citadel (1960) as well as the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (1978). Born in Columbus, Indiana, in 1938 to James Lee and Sarah Kathleen Records, he graduated from Columbus High School, where he earned an athletic scholarship to play basketball for the Citadel. In 1960 he enlisted in the US Air Force and served a distinguished career spanning twenty six years. During that time he was awarded three Legions of Merit, three Meritorious Service Medals, and The Air Force Commendation Medal, among other honors. He was also selected as the Outstanding Air Force Executive Staff Support Officer in 1972. During his career, he served as Base Commander at both Eglin (1983-1986) and Hanscom (1981-1983) Air Force Bases. Previous to those commands, he served at the Pentagon as the Deputy Executive Assistant to the Secretary of the Air Force (1973-1974) and other support positions throughout the Aeronautical Systems Division. He was preceded in death by his both of his parents; his brother, Robert Records, and former wife, Peggy I Records. He is survived by his brother, Mark Records; children, Terry Records, Stephen Records and Tricia Records; their spouses, Jason Nordhougen, Roseann Records and William Pryor; grandchildren, Adam Smith, Nicholas Smith, Sarah Records, Mary Records, and Emma Pryor; grandchildren through marriage, Charles Soukup, Rachel Soukup, Jocelyn Nordhougen, William Pryor, Patricia Pryor and Kara Pryor; great-grandchildren, Drake Smith and Zeke Smith; and great grandchildren through marriage, Hayden Pryor, Audrey Soukup, Evalynn Prator, Hunter Blansit and Jill Soukup. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Lewis Funeral Home in Navarre, Florida, on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, followed by a private funeral service with full honors at Fort Barrancas on Wednesday, June 2, 2021. He was a loyal and honest patriot that always put God and family first. We will forever honor him in our hearts.
