Lt. Col. Jefferson Davis SUMMERTON – Services for Lt. Col. Jefferson M. Davis (Ret.), 73, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Summerton United Methodist Church with burial in the family Benbow Cemetery. The Rev. Carolyn R. Malphrus will officiate assisted by the Rev. Mark A. Altman. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Stephens Funeral Home, Manning. Lt. Col. Davis died Thursday, March 7, 2002 at his home in Summerton. Born in Summerton, May 11, 1928, he was a son of the late Washington B. and Ida Morrison Davis. He was a 1950 graduate of The Citadel in Charleston. He spent 22 years in the U.S. Army and Army Security Agency, serving in the Korean Conflict with military tours both abroad and stateside. Upon his return to Summerton, he established the Davis Insurance Agency and was an active volunteer fireman for 22 years. He served as the Magistrate Judge of Manning for 16 years and was most involved in the activities of Summerton United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Faith Gibson Davis, originally of Charlotte, N.C.; son, Michael F. Davis and his wife, Cynthia K. Davis of Flagstaff, Ariz.; brother, H. Morrison Davis of Summerton; sister, May Davis Tindal of Pinewood; numerous nieces and nephews.
