Jamie Dean Nicholson, beloved son, husband and father passed away on January 1, 2022 in Medford, New Jersey. He was born on April 6, 1978 in Byron Bay, Australia to Larry Dean Nicholson and Lillian Cooper.
Jamie enlisted in the US Marine Corps July 08, 1996 and served honorably until his retirement on December 31, 2021. He began his service as an enlisted Marine rising through the ranks before attending OCS and becoming an officer. Jamie retired as a Captain. He was an exemplary Marine who served in combat throughout the middle east including many deployments to the Persian Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan. He also served as a Drill Instructor at one time, shaping new recruits into tough Marines. He was last assigned to MAG-49. Jamie valued mentoring Marines and established many life long friends throughout his 25 years of service. He received too many medals, awards and citations to list including Presidential Unit citations. Let it be said he was one of “The Best of the Best”.
Jamie’s most cherished hobby was playing guitar both acoustic and electric. He also had an appreciation for vintage amplifiers and pedals acquiring quite a collection over time. He researched every piece and knew the complete history and background of each. He also loved watches, their history and how they function. He acquired quite a collection, many times joking about his useless knowledge, but it was amazing! He also restored, owned and rode motorcycles including a cherished BSA and Triumph which were his favorites.
Jamie enjoyed woodworking teaching himself the art through reading, researching and watching YouTube videos. He had an appreciation for wood and created many different pieces that brought out the natural aspects of the wood. His most valued piece was the crib he made for his son, Dylan, and many retirement gifts for fellow Marines at MAG-49.
Jamie loved to travel and was always up for a new adventure. He traveled to many countries in Europe and Asia. He even participated in The Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain. Jamie treasured his Boston Terriers, Gunny and Baylee. He enjoyed taking them on hikes, to the beach, and always giving them the best cuddles.
Jamie is survived by his beloved wife Elissa, his son Dylan, his parents Lillian and Larry Nicholson, many other family members, friends and of course his Band of Brothers, his fellow Marines. He will be dearly missed by all and NEVER forgotten.
Jamie’s Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Porterville Church of the Nazarene followed by graveside service at Miramar National Cemetery on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. with full Military Honors.
