Retired Col. James Robert Correia, Jr., 73, of New Market, Ala., passed away Sunday, December 19, 2021.
James is preceded in death by his parents, James R. Correia, Sr. and Angelina Santos Correia; brother, Thomas A. Correia.
He was a 1970 graduate of The Citadel. He held a masters degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (AE), and was a graduate of the Naval Test Pilot School. Jim served in the U.S. Army for over 30 years, which included several Cavalry assignments at various levels, deployment of Desert Storm on the VII Corp Staff, and assignments in aircraft test. He was assigned to ARI, ARL and the Pentagon leading up to his retirement from the Army in 2000.
Following his Army retirement, Jim continued to use his training in aircraft test as an experimental test pilot at Ft. Rucker, and then Redstone Arsenal, as a Dept. of the Army Civilian. He retired from that position in September of 2017.
Jim was a devoted husband to Marilyn Wujcik Correia; father to Scott Correia (Hannah Erickson) of MD, Kristen Meiman (Jeffrey) of KY, Michael Correia of Alabama, Katherine Respress (Brandon) of GA. grandfather to Nathan, Robert, and Carolyn Meiman, and Thaddeus and Charlotte Respress. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Ramos of Rhode Island, and her four children and grandchildren.
James and Marilyn were members of Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 21st from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Berryhill Funeral Home. The Rosary will be at 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday December 22nd with The Mass following at 12:00 PM at Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church.
Burial will be in the family plot in Warren, RI at a later date.
