James P. Foster, Jr., 79, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at his home in Melbourne, FL, with his wife by his side.
James was born June 4, 1934 in Charleston, SC to the late James P. and Edna (Peeler) Foster. He was a graduate of the Citadel, Class of 1956. He served his country honorably in the USAF for 27 years retiring as a Colonel in 1993. Some of his memorable assignments were serving as the Base Commander at Clear, AK, two tours at the Pentagon, the last working in the Secretary of the Air Force Office. He then joined TRW and retired from there in 1994. He and his wife then relocated to FL in 1996 from Colorado Springs, CO. Of all the things he loved to do, spending time with his family, snow skiing in CO, waterskiing at Lake Powell, AZ, and fishing anywhere were his favorites.
Left behind to mourn his loss are: his beloved wife of 47 years, Mona, his children; Genise (Andy) Schwartz of Melbourne, FL, Janine (Frank) Childs of Woodland Park, CO, Michele (Mark) Stephens of Rancho Sante Fe, CA, James P. (Jeanette) Foster, IV of Bennebrook, the Netherlands, and Randell (Katy) Foster of Montrose, CO, his grandchildren; Matt, Jacob, Chase, Lisa, Stephanie, Tyler, Juliette, Lyndsey, Nelle, Molly, Brook. Great grandchildren; Matthew, Nathan, Riley, Amelia, Brayden, Ava, and Byron. His sisters; Mary (Bob) Davis, and Betty Tammenga. Also, several very special, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 2:00pm at Beach Funeral Home, 4999 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne, FL. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Department of Engineering at the Citadel, Charleston, SC. A memorial service will be offered at a later date at Holy Communion Church, in Charleston, SC.
