James Nathan Stedman, Jr., 89, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 10, 2019. The relatives and friends of James N. Stedman, Jr., are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial 1:00 PM Thursday, March 14, 2019, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 134 St. Phillip St. The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery. James was born on May 7, 1929, to James Nathan Stedman, Sr., and Allison Devereux Stedman. He resided in his beloved Charleston his entire life with his twin brother, John. James was known as the Prince of Huger Street, where he never met a stranger. He graduated from Bishop England High School, as well as The Citadel, Class of 1952, with a BS in commerce. James proudly served his country as a Military Police Officer in Italy during World War II. He retired as an accountant from Raybestos Manhattan in North Charleston. James was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, Citadel Chapter. He was also an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 704 and served as Grand Knight, State Deputy, long-time Financial Secretary, a founding member of the Past Grand Knights Breakfast Club and was an Honorary Life Member of the 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus Assembly 1071, where he served many years on the Degree Team. He is survived by his cousin, Alice “Devie” Hogan Brazell and her husband, Jim, as well as their daughter, Jamie.
