James Joseph Egan, 69 of Beaufort, SC, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Caroline’s Cottage.
Services to be held at St. Helena’s Anglican Church, 507 Newcastle Street, Beaufort, SC on Friday, July 17th at 10:30 AM.
James was born on December 19, 1956, in New York, NY, the son of the late James G. and MaryAnn (Goss) Egan. His Wife of 45 years, Carolyn Richardson, passed away in December of 2024.
After graduating from The Citadel, he went on to earn his Master of Business Administration, preparing for a distinguished career in the textile industry. He served as Chief Executive Officer of Graniteville Specialty Fabrics. Outside of his professional life, Jim found his greatest joy in the outdoors. Whether hunting, fishing, or simply spending time in nature, he cherished the peace and beauty of God’s creation. Those who shared these experiences with him will remember his adventurous spirit, quiet wisdom, and deep appreciation for the natural world.
His Christian faith was the foundation of his life. Jim was a devoted member of St. Helena’s Church, where he faithfully served on the Vestry. Prior to moving to Beaufort he also served on vestry at St. Stephens in Lynchburg, VA. His steadfast faith, servant’s heart, and quiet example inspired all who knew him.
Survivors include: his sons: Christopher (Jessica) Egan of Port Royal, SC, and David (Shorey) Egan of Myrtle Beach, SC; three grandchildren: Warren, Anderson, and Clarence ; and one brother: Kenneth W. Egan.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to The Preservation Trust for Historic St. Helena’s, PO Box 1043, Beaufort, SC 29901
