James “Jim” Hines Blackmon, III, 56, of Ricketson Road, entered into rest December 20, 2010 at McDuffie Regional Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Linda Hughes. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Dr. James M. Ramsey officiating. Pallbearers will be Ian King, Tim Burnham, Bubba Blackmon, Caleb Clauson-Hughes, Land Rhodes and Ralph Starling. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Men’s Outreach Sunday School Class. Mr. Blackmon was a native of Wilkes County, Georgia and was the son of the late James H. Blackmon, Jr. and the late Virginia Miller Blackmon. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Washington, Georgia, and attended First Baptist Church Thomson where he was an active member of the Men’s Outreach Sunday School Class. Mr. Blackmon attended the Citadel in 1973 where he played football, and later graduated from the University of Georgia with a BS in Agriculture. He was a lineman with Spirit Aviation in Thomson and Greensboro, and had worked with Terra International in Waynesboro, Georgia for 15 years. Jim was an avid outdoorsman, loved golf and was best known for his ability to make new friends. Survivors include his wife, Mary Linda Hughes; son, James “Jimmy” H. Blackmon, IV and wife, Heather of Brasselton, Ga.; daughters, Sara Virginia Blackmon-Hughes and Grace Elizabeth Blackmon- Hughes of Warrenton, Ga.; sisters, Becky Stover and husband, Jerry of Washington, Ga., Linda King and husband, Don Wendt of Winston-Salem, NC; father-in-law, George Odis Hughes of Thomson, Ga.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don Clauson and Sandi Hughes of Martinez, Ga.; niece, Tamara Henderson; and nephews, Caleb Clauson-Hughes, Layne Paulk, and Ian King.
