James “Jim” Edward Viers of West Palm Beach, Florida passed away on September 20, 2016. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, the magic of the Kentucky Derby always lived in his family tradition. Jim graduated from Atherton High School in Louisville and was awarded a basketball scholarship to The Citadel, the military college of South Carolina. Jim majored in business administration and was under the command of General Mark W. Clark. Upon graduation he was commissioned as a 2nd LT in the US Army and prepared for the invasion of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After leaving the military, Jim earned a Masters in guidance from Florida Atlantic University and became a guidance counselor in Palm Beach county. Following almost a decade in teaching, he joined the family business of Dorothy E. Viers Real Estate in Lake Worth, Florida. For the next 30 years Jim served as a realtor helping clients on obtaining the American dream and was a member of the National Board of Realtors and the Palm Beach County Board of Realtors. Jim was also an avid Snook fisherman and enjoyed diving for lobster with his wife Kathy in Marathon. He is survived by his son James D. Viers and James’s mother Kathy Viers and proceed by his parents Ernie and Dorothy Viers. The family will receive friends at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 6411 Parker Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM. Mass of Christian Burial following visitation will be celebrated at St. Juliana Catholic Church, where Jim was a member, 4500 S. Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach, FL at 12:00 PM.
