Hiram Hutchison, Jr., 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 6, 2024 at Westminster Health and Rehabilitation Center.
The service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Lee Zehmer officiating. The family will receive friends at the church, immediately following the service.
Born in Rock Hill, SC, Hiram was the son of the late Hiram Hutchison and the late Helen Good Hutchison. He was also preceded in death by Anne Claire Bigger, fondly known by Hiram’s family as “Sissy”.
After finishing his high school education at Rock Hill High School in 1953, Hiram continued to college for higher education at The Citadel, graduating in 1957. He was a commissioned officer in the United States Army Reserves, serving from 1957 – 1959. Hiram was well known in the community as a commercial insurance underwriter with his CPCU certification. He was the former President of Heirs Clarkson Insurance Agency and owner of The Insurance Center in Rock Hill.
Outside of his professional involvement in Rock Hill, Hiram was involved in numerous organizations and clubs in the area. Some of those organizations are Camp Arc, Special Olympics, Sierra Club, Rotary Club, South Carolina Waterfowl Association, The Wild Turkey Federation, SERTOMA Club, and the Tri-County Citadel Club. Hiram was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill.
Surviving are his spouse, Linda Dunbar Hutchison; son, Chip Hutchison (Sherry); two daughters, Lyn Neil (Mike), Dr. Trish Hutchison (Michael Purcell); eight grandchildren, Rachel Briggs (Ryan), Sarah Mockridge (Thomas), Mary Hannah Neil, Maddie Neil, Bo Hutchison (Brooke), Teddy Hutchison, Anne Claire Purcell, and Maehler Purcell.
