Henry “Harry” Wilfred Runey Jr passed away peacefully in hospice on June 30th, 2025, surrounded by family after a brief illness. Harry graduated from North Charleston High School and enlisted in the Navy in 1951. He served on the USS Bon Homme Richard as a Machinery Repairman Petty Officer 3 Class in the Korean War earning the National Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, and Good Conduct Medal. After being honorably discharged from the service, he attended and graduated from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He later became a CPA and Certified Fraud Investigator, working for the Pinellas County Courthouse in Clearwater and Sheriff’s Department in Largo. He also had his own private practice and served for many years as the President of his Homeowners Association. Harry married “the love of his life”, Susan Louise Garrison and raised a family of three children in Largo Fl. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed traveling, and spending time with family, friends, and his beloved Boston Terriers.
Henry was predeceased by his father, Henry W Runey Sr. of North Charleston, SC and mother, Evelyn Othalma Runey (Yonn) of Walterboro, SC. Henry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Susan, his three brothers: Robert Runey (Barbara Runey) of Charleston SC, Gerald Runey (Martha Wicker) of Charleston, SC and Timothy Runey (Kathy Hoffstetter) of ME. Sons: Henry W. Runey III of France, Gregorey G Runey (Robert Dorcy) of Largo, Fl and daughter: Kimberley Stuver (Joseph Stuver) of Belleair Bluffs, Fl and granddaughter Tabitha Stuver.
