Harry Simms O’Neal, Sr., 92, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Anne Heins O’Neal, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, March 22, 2022. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022 in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 405 King Street, at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, March 25, 2022, in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Harry was born October 18, 1929, in Fairfax, South Carolina, son of the late Gilmore Simms O’Neal and Susie Breland O’Neal. Harry is survived by his wife of 71 years, Anne; daughter, Lynne O. Weisskopf (Mike) of Charleston, SC; two sons: Harry S. O’Neal, Jr. (Mary) of Lacombe, LA and Larry F. O’Neal (Donna) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Floyd B. O’Neal (Wink) of Augusta, GA. Harry was predeceased by a sister Christine O. Raybon (Jesse) and three brothers; Gilmore A (Marjorie)., Julius E. (Dorothy)and H. Algenon (Doris) O’Neal. Harry was the last of his four brothers to graduate from The Citadel. Upon graduation in 1950 with a BS in Business Administration, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He retired as a Major from the Air Force Reserve. After Air Force active duty, he held several positions of increasing responsibility in the Bell Telephone organization, retiring as Comptroller for South Central Bell. Harry was a devoted father and husband. He loved The Lord. He was an active member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, participating in several church ministries. He was a Boy Scout troop leader and attained the rank of Eagle Scout in his youth. When a resident of the Isle of Palms, he was a member of the Island City Council, a Water and Sewer commissioner, and served as president of the Island’s Exchange Club. He loved The Citadel and lived its values every day. He was a lifelong fan and supporter of Citadel sports.
