HARKEN, JR., Harold Harold Dallas Harken, Jr. (a.k.a. Buddy) departed this wonderful life on November 9, 2007 for a more sublime existence with his Lord and God, Jesus Christ. Dallas was born in Charleston, S.C. on the 17th of September 1939, the only child of H. Dallas Harken, Sr. of Charleston, S.C., and Lillian Marie Cox of Johnsonville, S.C. He graduated from Chicora High School, and Newberry College earning a BA degree in History and Political Science. He completed an MA degree from Webster University, St. Louis, MO; and M.Ed., MAT, Ed.S degrees from the Citadel in Charleston, S.C. He served as an Aircraft Commander, Instructor Pilot, and Flight Examiner for the USAF. He completed two tours during the Vietnam War flying nine hundred and fifty combat missions, and receiving seven air medals in KC-135, C-130, and AC-130 aircraft. Upon returning to civilian life, he taught secondary science for thirty years in Summerville School District number two, retiring in January of 2000. Dallas was a member of Advent Lutheran Church located in North Charleston, S.C., where he served as lay assistant minister for many years. He was a Past Master of Orange Charles Towne Masonic Lodge 14. A member of the Disabled Veterans Association of America, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. At Newberry College, he participated in the dramatics club, and was a member of Alpha Psi Omega dramatics fraternity. He was also a life time member of the American Hunting Association. Dallas is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Louise Ham Harken of Charleston, S.C., and three wonderful and successful children; H. Dallas Harken III of Lindon, UT, Barbara M. Taylor of Charleston, S.C., and Kathryn L. Heinsohn of Meggett, S.C. Eight grandchildren: Ashley and Randy Luck, Katlin and Michael Vest, Michael Harken, Rachel Harken, Wilson Carter, Russell Taylor, Audrey Taylor, and Dylan Heinsohn. The relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service for Dallas Harken, Jr. Wednesday, November 14, 2007 in Advent Lutheran Church at two o’clock. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC. North Area Chapel, 2119 Dorchester Road, Tuesday evening from six until eight o’clock. Burial services will be held Thursday, in Live Oak Memorial Gardens at eleven o’clock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Advent Lutheran Church Stove Fund , 3347 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, S.C. 29405.
