Hobart Ray Everett, Sr., 87, of Mount Pleasant, SC, died January 15,
2010. He was born March 24, 1922, in Crowder, Mississippi, the son of
Lawrence and Ruby Elnora Wann Everett. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps
for the duration of WWII, with his last posting in Charleston. For a
number of years he served in the Air Force Reserve. After the war, he
graduated from the Citadel, Charleston, and then finished studies for a
graduate degree at the Wharton School of Finance, Philadelphia. For many
years he was Chief Accountant in the Financial Office at Roper Hospital,
Charleston. He became Director of Fiscal Affairs for St. Francis Xavier
Hospital in 1963, retiring after 23 years. He served on the board of the
American Association of Hospital Accountants, starting the South
Carolina Chapter in 1954. After retirement, he made a name for himself
as a landscape photographer. On October 4, 1946, he married Ruth Holmes
Humphreys of Charleston, SC, who predeceased him. They lived in Mount
Pleasant and were members first of St. Andrews and then of Christ Church
Episcopal. In September 2008, he married Dessie Connell of Mount
Pleasant. He is survived by: a daughter, Dr. Ruth Holmes Whitehead of
Halifax, Nova Scotia; two sons, Commander H. R. (Bart) Everett, USN
(Ret.), San Diego, CA; and Reverend Wade Humphreys Everett,
Timmonsville, SC; a daughter-in-law, Rev. Ann Dease Everett; three
grandsons, Todd Ashley, Timothy Andrew and David Benjamin Everett; two
granddaughters-in-law: Elise and Katrina Everett; two granddaughters:
Sarah Robin Holmes Whitehead and Rebecca Nicole Everett Stebbins; two
grandsons-in-law: Ryerson Christie and Jeff Stebbins; a great-grandson,
Seann Everett; and four great-granddaughters, Savannah, Rochelle, and
Allison Ruth Everett, and Nathalie Kathleen Stebbins; and his sister,
Launa Fay Everett Hickey De Sale. He was predeceased by another sister,
Fern Everett Luker, and by two brothers, Lawrence and Melvin Eugene
Everett. Visitation with family and friends 2 p.m. – 3 p.m., Wednesday,
January 20, 2010, at Christ Episcopal Church, 2304 Highway 17N, Mt.
Pleasant, SC 29466, with Funeral Service beginning at 3 p.m.; burial
