Guy M. Beaver Jr. of Concord, N.C., passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at the age of 92.
Guy was the devoted husband of Mary Ida Beaver for 66 years. He was also an admiring father to Louise B. Ripple (Randy Ripple) and Guy M. Beaver III (Genny Beaver). “Granddaddy” leaves behind an impressive legacy in his five grandchildren, Martha Ripple (Tom Kuklinski), Mary Ripple (Gray Visco), Ruth Ann Beaver, Meredith Beaver and Ben Beaver; and five great-grandchildren, Lee Kuklinski, Nell Kuklinski, Mary Mac Kuklinski, James Visco and Audrey Visco.
He was predeceased by his father, Guy Moody Beaver Sr.; his mother, Elma Sloop Beaver; and his sister, Louise Brown Beaver.
After attending Concord City schools and The Citadel, where he was a top-ranking cadet, Guy managed the family business, Beaver Lumber and Supply Company, for 24 years. He then transitioned to a second career as a financial advisor, retiring from Wells Fargo at the age of 80. Over the course of his life, he served his community in many roles, including Boy Scout Troop 3 committee chair, Rotary Club member, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, Stokes Masonic Lodge master, Jaycees director and First Presbyterian Church deacon.
Perhaps Guy’s greatest community contribution was his passion for regional and familial history. A lifelong, avid historian, Guy spent countless hours cataloging, documenting and protecting historical sites in Cabarrus and Rowan Counties. He was proud to be a member of the Sons of American Revolution and spent years taking care of the historic Phifer Cemetery. For his efforts, he was awarded the Historic Cabarrus Historian of the Year award in 2016.
Guy’s friends and family will remember him for his passion for playing golf, pecan pie, Wake Forest sports, genealogy, hiking trips on the Appalachian Trail and the Royal Canadian Air Force Exercise Plan.
The family would like to thank the staff of Morningside for the compassionate care he received while living there the past few months.
There will be a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery, Saturday, July 16 at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to First Presbyterian Church of Concord, P.O. Box 789, Concord, NC 28026 or to the Historic Cabarrus Association, P.O. Box 966, Concord, NC 28026.
