Grover Cleveland Croft, Jr., 84, of Summerville, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2009 after a long and happy life. Mr. Croft will be remembered as the epitome of unselfish love and devotion to his family, his church and his friends. His quiet strength served as a comfort to many during his lifetime. Born in Helena, GA, on February 2, 1925, he married Ermine Lotz Croft in 1945 and they enjoyed 64 years together. Mr. Croft was a graduate of Summerville High School, Class of 1942 and The Citadel, Class of 1949. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and was a member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Society. He served in the US Navy during World War II. He was employed by the South Carolina Electric and Gas Company and retired in January 1989 as Vice President of Transmission and Distribution Engineering. Mr. Croft loved the Lord and was a loyal and long time member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. In his later years, he enjoyed creating woodcarvings, watercolor paintings and puttering about his mountain cabin. He is survived by his wife, Ermine Lotz Croft, his daughter and son-in-law Windy C. and Bill J. Rogers of Summerville and his son and daughter-in-law, Grover S. and Donna K. Croft of Mt. Pleasant. Mr. Croft felt great joy and pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 206 Central Avenue, Summerville, SC 29483 and The Citadel Foundation, 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston, SC 29401. A funeral service for Mr. Croft will be held at 11 o’clock, Thursday, September 24, 2009 in the chapel at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church with interment following at Summerville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at PARKS FUNERAL HOME from 6 until 8 o’clock Wednesday evening, September 23, 2009.
