George L. Brown passed away April 26, 2024 at UAB Hospital, Birmingham, Alabama.
Born May 4, 1943 in Buffalo, New York, George graduated from The Citadel in 1966.
A proud and faithful veteran of the U.S. Army Special Forces for 28 years, George served his country from 1966-1994 and was deployed on three combat tours in Vietnam. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
For his undaunted dedication, courage, and service, George was awarded several decorations, including the Silver Star (2), Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal of Valor (2), Bronze Star (4), Presidential Unit Citation (Army-Air Force), Purple Heart, and numerous other medals, badges, citations, and campaign ribbons.
George was truly a “Soldier’s Soldier.” He loved being in the military and serving his country. After his retirement from active duty, George continued to do government contract work until 2008.
George is survived by his wife, Claire; daughter, Jennifer; son, David; and three grandchildren.
George requested that there be no funeral or memorial service. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
