George Arthur Marcos, Jr., 73, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Monday, July 2, 2018. George was born June 6, 1945, in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late George Arthur Marcos and Lucille Croffead Marcos. His passions were family, education, history and sports. A loving brother, loving uncle and cousin, George always had a smile on his face and loved making people smile. At Rivers High School, George was a multi-sport athlete. The highlight being co-captain of the 1964 Bears state basketball championship team. After graduating from Erskine College, George immediately pursued a career in education starting at the High School of Charleston where he taught history and coached the basketball team (Bantams). In 1971, he coached the Bantams to the Conference 7-A Championship. He went on to earn his Masters and EdD in Education at The Citadel while teaching at St. Andrews High School and eventually working for the Charleston County Schools administration. George completed his career as Assistant Principal first at Bond Wilson High School and Stall High School. George had a reputation for being fair and always listening to both sides of a discussion and believing in a second chance for all of his students. He was a passionate believer in the power of education. George was at Franke at Seaside for his last six years. His family is extremely grateful for all the beautiful and noble souls who looked after him and worked with him to enrich his life and to ensure his emotional and physical comfort. George knew he was loved and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his brother, Thomas Marcos (Dorothy) of Greer, SC; and two nephews: Tom Marcos Jr. of Columbia, SC and David Hayward of Greenville, SC and Tony and Gillian Mark. His Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, July 5, 2018, in Franke at Seaside, Rodenberg Chapel, 1885 Rifle Range Road, at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
