ADDISON, Gene COLUMBIA – Memorial service for Dr. Gene Calvin Addison, 77, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at DUNBAR FUNERAL HOME, DEVINE STREET CHAPEL. Visitation will be Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Dr. Addison died Sunday, January 07, 2007. Born in Eastover, he was the son of the late Glen Clyde and JoNelle Garner Addison. He was a graduate of Lower Richland High School and The Citadel, class of 1950. In 1955 he received his doctorate from the Medical College of Virginia, School of Dentistry, where he was a member of Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps. Dr. Addison practiced dentistry for thirty-eight years, twenty-five in private practice, and thirteen as Chief of Dental Surgery at Byrnes Medical Center. He retired in 1996. He served as president of the Columbia-Richland County Dental Society and as president of the South Carolina Central District Dental Society. For ten years he provided dentistry for Carolina Children’s Home. Dr. Addison was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church. Throughout his life, he was an avid outdoorsman and gentleman farmer. He raised pine and pecan trees at his farm on the South Edisto River in Sweden, S.C., where he enjoyed many friends. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Robinson Addison; children and their spouses — Glenn Douglas and Ann Addison of Daniel Island, Janet Addison and Tom Shealy of Mt. Pleasant, Richard Daniel and Joanna Addison of Columbia, and Amy Addison and Bert Louthian of Columbia; grandchildren — Taylor, Regan and Joseph Addison, Ben and Spencer Shealy, Mac and Will Addison, Mary Montague Akers, and Landon and Addison Addie Louthian; sister — Lila Glenn Addison Hodge of Fort Mill; and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. The Reverend Julian F. Craig, a life-long friend, will perform the service. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be nephews C.P. Hodge, Jr. and Danny Hodge, Dr. Jack Dunn, Dr. Frank Hines, Jr., Johnny Jennings, John Jennings, Travis Jennings, and Sanntannu McDaniel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carolina Children’s Home or Alzheimer’s Association, S.C. Chapter.
