Gaston Petrus “GP” Geentiens, Jr., 79, of Charleston, husband of Barbara A. Geentiens entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 4, 2015. Gaston was born on April 6, 1935 in Garfield, NJ, a son of Gaston P. and Margaret Piros Geentiens. He graduated from The Citadel in 1956 and was a Korean War Veteran serving as a United States Army combat engineer and completed his service as a Company Commander. Gaston married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Chamberlain on October 14, 1960. Gaston and Barbara loved traveling the world together and especially enjoyed sailing in Charleston. In a career that spanned 30 years, he was a professional engineer and president of his own construction management consultant company, G.P. Geentiens, Jr., Inc. A highly sought after consultant, he served a variety of companies, including Western Electric Company, Inc., Ethyl Corporation, Litton Industries, and was a Director of Cayman Broadcasting Associates. He was a member of American Society of Civil Engineers, Tau Beta Pi, and Ramapo Republican Club. Gaston is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his daughter, Mercedes F. Geentiens Sykora and husband, Ronald G. Sykora, Jr.; and two grandchildren, Christopher P. and Stephanie M. Sykora. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
