GAROLD E. GARY SEEGER, 54, of Beechcrest Street, a decorated retired Army major, died Saturday at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Rita M. (Steger) Seeger. He was born in Pendleton, Ore., a son of the late Cleo L. and Queth Z. (Fawver) Seeger, he had lived in Warwick for 18 years. Mr. Seeger served with the Army for 21 years, retiring as a major in 1993. He was a recipient of a Legion of Merit Medal, two Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, and two National Defense Medals, among other awards. He was a graduate of the Citadel Military Academy, in South Carolina, and received a master’s degree from Providence College. He was working on a doctorate in European history at Providence College. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Frank A. Seeger of Augsburg, Germany; three sisters, Zonda Whitlock of Columbus, Ga., Brenda Clemons of Daphne, Ala., and Cindy Evans of Canton, Ga.; two brothers, Troy Seeger and Shawn Seeger, both of Jacksonville, Ala.; and a granddaughter. He was the brother of the late Steven Seeger. A memorial gathering will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Peter J. Barrett Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Ave. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery, Jacksonville.
