G. Wayne Ullrich, of Anandale, Va., died Sept. 8, 2023. Wayne was born on October 17, 1946, in Vicksburg, MS. to Gilbert William and Ona Emma. The only other member of the family was his sister Ona Sue who was four years older.
Wayne spent his formative years in Savannah, GA. He went to grade school at Isle of Hope and high school at Savannah High. Then attended college at The Citadel in Charleston, SC. Having skipped a grade in junior high, he entered The Citadel as one of youngest and smallest cadets. Finishing The Citadel with honors, he entered the Air Force as a Second Lieutenant. He then went to Dayton, OH for his Masters. Finishing this also with honors and already accepted to MIT, the Air Force said he had to go to work for a while before attending MIT. After going to California for a year he went to Korea for two years. While in Korea he met a young lady, Suki, who would become his wife and they moved back to Boston. After graduating from MIT with a Doctorate Degree in Geophysics the Air Force sent him and Suki to Albuquerque, NM.
After retiring from the Air Force as a Lt. Colonel, he and Suki went to Washington DC and finally settled in Annandale, VA. After Suki’s death Wayne stayed on in Annandale until his death.
