Family and friends note with great sadness the passing of Dr. Frederick B. Williams, of Cumming, Ga., on January 10, 2014. Born in Columbia, South Carolina on April 12, 1931 to Myrtle and C. O. Williams, Fred leaves behind his wife, Fran, and his children, Lynda Williams, Lisa Arnold, Whitney Williams, daughter-in-law Beverly Williams, son-in-law Bill Arnold, and 5 grandchildren: Drew Williams, Shirley Arnold, Rachel Williams, Kathryn Arnold, and Sam Williams. Fred was a man of integrity and spent his life in service to others starting as a young paperboy during the Great Depression, overcoming dyslexia, graduating from the Citadel and the University of Maryland Dental School. He had a 20 year career as an oral surgeon in the U.S. Navy and retired with the rank of Captain. Mechanical engineering came naturally to Fred and he was well known by family and friends for fixing things through unique methods he called Williamizing. His joy in life came from helping others his patients, his family and his friends. We all knew that if we called, he would come to our aid. As a dentist, he was so gentle that he could calm and comfort people who were terrified of them. In fact, his own children felt so comfortable with him that they would fall asleep in his dental chair while he handled their dental care. Fred loved his mountain home spending time building roads and clearing brush using his life-sized Tonka toys. The grandchildren loved riding around with Grandpa on his beloved Kubota tractor. He was a Godly man and faithfully served Him at Coosa United Methodist Church in Blairsville. Fred was a living example of Proverbs 14:23 All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. NIV Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 17, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Coosa United Methodist Church with Rev. Earl Bishop & Rev. Roy Watkins officiating. Interment will follow at Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the North Georgia Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Hope House of Union County, 178 Brackett’s Way, Unit 3, Blairsville, GA 30512 Tags: 1954
