Fred Myers Williams Jr., of Monticello, Fla., age 74, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away at home on Sunday morning, September 16. The only child of F. Myers St. and Mamie Williams. Fred was born on January 9, 1938 in Wacissa, Florida. Fred was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. He graduated from Jefferson County High School in 1956 and completed his higher education at the Citadel in Charleston, S.C. Upon graduation, he served 2 years in the US Army, one on American soil and one in Korea. After his return from Korea, he met and eventually married the love of his life, Velinda Andrews Williams. They were married on May 24, 1964. They raided two children in a loving Christian home. Fred began his long career in the logging business with Williams and Boland Logging, a company his father co-founded. He later left to start Williams Timber, Inc. with his son, Bradley. He retired as president in 2008. Fred had a love for his community and served on the Jefferson County Planning Commission for 14 years and was a County Commissioner for 12 years. He served on the Board of Directors for Capital City Bank Group and was instrumental in starting the Branch in Monticello. He faithfully attended Wacissa United Methodist Church, where he served as finance chair for many years. He was an example for strong faith and character that will be greatly missed. He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Velinda Williams, his son, Bradley Andrew Williams, daughter-in-law, Angie Beach Williams and two grandsons, Tag and Paxton Williams. He is preceded in death by his parents, F. Myers Sr. and Mamie Williams as well as his oldest son, Fred M. Williams, III. A celebration of the extraordinary life of Fred will be held on Tuesday, September 18, Wacissa United Methodist Church at 11 a.m., with interment at Beth Page Cemetery.
