Ernest Stephen Darby, 69, of 404 Berkshire Hill, husband of Judy Moore Darby, died Saturday, January 6, 2007. Born July 11, 1937, in Anderson, he was the son of the late Barney D. and Martha Edmunds Darby. He was a 1955 graduate of Anderson Boys’ High School, a 1959 graduate of The Citadel, and served in the U.S. Army Adjutant General Corps from 1960 to 1962, where he received the Army Commendation Medal. Mr. Darby was currently chairman of the board of Darby Electric Company. He was an honorary life member and past president of the Anderson Jaycees and served on the Anderson Chamber of Commerce board of directors and the United Way board of directors. He was a member and past president of the Anderson Rotary Club. He was a member of the Tri-County Technical College Foundation board and began serving as the chairman of the foundation board in 2004. Mr. Darby was a member of the Anderson College board of trustees from 1997 to 2000 and served on the board of directors at Bank of Anderson from 1998 to 2006. He was a member of the Electrical Apparatus Service Association since 1962 and served as the international president in 1986 to 87. He was the 1995 Small Business Person of the Year in Anderson County. He was a member of the Governor’s Committee for Small Business Regulatory Review and was currently serving on the steering committee of Imagine Anderson. Mr. Darby was a member of First Baptist Church of Anderson, where he had served as a deacon and chairman of the Personnel Committee. Surviving are his wife, Judy, of the home; son, Michael S. Darby, and his wife, Alicia Neal Darby, of Anderson; daughter, Susan D. Hamilton, and her husband, Ben W. Hamilton, of Anderson; five grandchildren, Jacob M. Darby, Neal R. Darby, Anna Ree Darby, J. Aiken Hamilton and F. Whit Hamilton; sister, Molly George Rich, and her husband, Linvil Rich, of Anderson; and sister-in-law, Bettye S. Darby of Anderson; a number of nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Darby was preceded in death by his brother, Barney D. Darby Jr. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Anderson, conducted by Dr. James R. Thomason. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson.
