Edward McBride Boland, Sr., 87, of Sidney’s Road, Walterboro, formerly of Orangeburg, died Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at the Veterans Victory Home in Walterboro. A Graveside Service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, October 21, 2010, at Springfield Cemetery. Arrangements by THOMPSON FUNERAL HOME, INC., in Orangeburg. Honorary pallbearers include the members of Buckhead Hunting Club. Mr. Boland was born March 16, 1923, in Springfield, SC, the son of the late Benson Cromer Boland and the late Miriam Bean Boland. He was a member of The Citadel, Class of 1944; he was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Okinawa during World War II. He was retired from Star Redi Mix and was a member of the Elks Lodge 897, the VFW #2779, and Post 4 American Legion. He was an honorary member of Buckhead Hunting Club. He was the widow of the late Lucille Reasonover Boland. Survivors include two sons, Edward M. “Eddie” Boland, Jr., of Cope, SC, Albert B. Boland of Columbia; one sister, Mary Catherine Brown of Springfield, SC; four grandchildren, Edward M. “Trip” (Leigh) Boland of Orangeburg, Christina Elizabeth Boland of Orangeburg, Todd Boland of Clayton, NC, and Kimberly Elsey of Irmo, SC; six great-grandchildren, including three of which who were very special, Mac, Kate, and Ben. Friends may call at the funeral home. Visitation will be held 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., in Orangeburg.
