Dr. Edward Leroy Heath, Sr., 82, of Cleveland, SC., husband of Sara S. Heath, passed away at home July 17, 2018.
Born in Barnwell, SC, he was a son of the late Clarence Eugene and Mattie Porter Heath.
Dr. Heath was a graduate of The Citadel, Southeastern Baptist Seminary, Bowman Gray School of Medicine Chaplaincy Program, and Peabody/Vanderbilt University where he received his Ed. D., in education. He loved education and even studied at Harvard and Oxford University in England. He was an editor of curriculum at Sunday School board in Nashville TN.
He began his career in Pineville, La., as Dean of students at Louisiana College. He retired in 2001 as VP of Business Affairs and Institutional Planning. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Pineville, La and Greenville, SC where he enjoyed his centering prayer group.
Faith and family were of upmost importance to him.
Surviving in addition to his wife Sara of 57 years are his children, Cathy, Edward (Lisa), David (Jayne), and Meg; grandchildren, Sara Catherine, William, Allison and Avery. He is preceded in death by his son John.
Graveside services will be Saturday, July 21, 2018, at 1pm at Holly Hill Cemetery in Holly Hill, SC. with Rev. Amber Blackwell Childers officiating. The family will receive friends Friday afternoon, July 20, 2018, from 3 to 5 at Mackey at Century Drive.
