Edward F. Eatmon, of Kingstree, died Sunday, January 24, 2021, at his residence in Kingstree.
Mr. Eatmon was born March 7, 1937, in Kingstree at Kelley Sanatorium, founded by his grandfather, Dr. E.T. Kelley. He was the son of the late Circuit Judge and former Senator J. Frank Eatmon and the late Margaret Kelley Eatmon. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School, received his BA degree from the University of South Carolina, and his master’s degree from The Citadel.
He was a teacher and coach at Olanta High School and at Kingstree High School where he served his final year as assistant principal. He was then employed by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control where he subsequently became Environmental Quality Manager. He retired from DHEC in 1995.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kingstree and a former Sunday School teacher. He served on the South Carolina Sporting Dogs and Field Trial Commission and was a founding member of the Black River Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.
He was active in the Carolina Boykin Spaniel Retriever Club and was president for three years. He served on the Board of Directors of the Boykin Spaniel Society and was the board’s chairman for seven years. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and was Benefactor Member of the National Rifle Association.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Alice Heins Eatmon, of Kingstree; and two daughters; Alicia Eatmon, of Columbia and Kelley Eatmon, of Kingstree.
Services will be private. The family requests that memorials be sent to the First Baptist Church of Kingstree, 400 N. Academy Street, Kingstree, SC 29556.
