Dr. Stokes Fishburne, of Fort Myers, Florida, died December 1. Stokes was a rocket scientist, who earned his Ph.D. at Ohio State. In 1970, when Stokes was working as a scientist for Grumman Aerospace Corporation, he and his partner developed the algorithms for bringing the astronauts aboard Apollo 13 safely back to Earth. In 1979, Dr. Fishburne went on to establish his own company, SciTec, in Princeton, NJ. SciTec was purchased by the aerospace division of TRW in 1989.
Dr. Fishburne is survived by his wife, Pat Fishburne, two daughters and two grandchildren.
