Peters, Donald L. San Antonio, Tex. -Donald L. Peters, retired colonel, 67, pulled pitch for his final flight on May 3, 2006, going peacefully at home with his family at his side. He is survived by his wife, Claire; his children, Donald, David, Daren, Dawn; and seven grandchildren. Col. Don Peters was born in New London, on March 30, 1939. He graduated from New London High School in 1957, and went on to pursue a military career graduating from the Citadel Military College of South Carolina in 1961. Don served our country for 26 years as an artilleryman and aviator. He served two tours in Vietnam as an aviator and was awarded the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross (Oak Leaf Cluster), and Bronze Star (OLC) for valor. Don was active in the Knights of Columbus over 30 years and was a past Grand Knight. After he retired, Don joined Claire in her Shaklee health and wellness business. He settled into his life outside the military, spending memorable time with family and many friends. He spent his last three years in San Antonio, enjoying life, poolside, close to family. One of his biggest gifts was his ability to be a friend to all, a dad that loved his kids unconditionally, and above all, his never ending love to Claire, his wife of 45 years. The Funeral Mass will be at 12 noon on Monday, May 8th, at the Blessed Sacrament Church on 600 Oblate Drive, San Antonio TX 78216, followed by a full military burial service at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Don’s honor may be sent to Knights of Columbus Council #7016 c/o Blessed Sacrament Church (address above), or to The Citadel Foundation (Class of 1961) in his honor at 171 Moultrie St., Charleston SC 29409. The Porter Loring Funeral Home of San Antonio is assisting the family.
