David Woodrow Ayers Jr. age 62 of Sumter, SC passed away on Sunday August 27, 2017 at the Agape Hospice House in Lexington, SC. David was born June 7, 1955 in Moncks Corner, SC to David Woodrow Ayers Sr. and Jewell Newell Ayers. David was a member of St. Mark’s UMC Sumter, SC where he was an active member of the choir. He was a Citadel graduate and former teacher at Lord Berkeley Academy in Moncks Corner. David was a Recreation Director in the Low Country for many years before moving to Sumter. He was a Jaycee of Moncks Corner and Sumter. He enjoyed many years of officiating various sports through SCISA and Dixie Youth Baseball. He is survived by his daughter Jamie K. Ayers of Clemson, SC, his brother and sister-in law Michael and Kat Ayers of Summerville, SC, his sister Betsy of Alpharetta, GA, two nephews and two nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, and wife Linda McElveen Ayers. His funeral service will be held at Russell Funeral Chapel in Moncks Corner, Thursday morning, August 31, 2017, at 11 o’clock. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 10 o’clock until the hour of service. Memorials may be made to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 27 Broad Street, Sumter, SC 29150.
