Dave Lancoe Cox, 86, passed away Wednesday morning, July 18th after a prolonged period of physical decline under the great care of the McCleod Hospice house. Dave served his country in the US Air Force for 3 years during the Korea War. After serving his country Dave returned to Newberry college to finish His degree in Natural Science and later did his post graduate At the Citadel where he received his master’s degree in Education. He went on to be a chemist at VC Chemical where after 5 years he was recruited by Trident technical College to begin the chemical engineering department where he would continue on for 20 years. But Dave’s greatest passion was the church. Even as he worked at Trident Tech he was also busy helping with a church plant in Summerville, SC. After being ordained in 1986 Dave went on to become the pastor of First Southern Methodist Church of North Charleston. He would pastor this church for 25 years until his retirement. So many of you, including myself, were deeply affected by his relentless pursuit of his faith. Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years Lorretta Werts Cox, Two children, Jimmy (Roxanne) Cox and Stewart (Shannon) Billingsley and four grandsons, David (Kim) Cox, Seth (Rachel) Billingsley, Steven (Kunhee) Cox, Ethan (Whitney) Billingsley and two great grand-children, Abigail Billingsley and Charlotte Cox and a sister Ruth Sandifer of Florence. He was predeceased by his brother J.A. Cox. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, July 21st, at the Church of Sandhurst, 1140 3rd Loop Rd. Florence SC. 29505.
