David Eugene Forbes, 69, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Friday, November 25, 2016. His Funeral Service will be private. David was born September 28, 1947 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Clarence Eugene “Porgy” Forbes and Mary Johnston Forbes. He graduated from The Citadel, Class of 1973, after serving his country in the Navy from which he was Honorably Discharged. Mr. Forbes worked as an agent for The Internal Revenue Service before becoming an Agent with U.S. Customs Service. He retired in 2001 as a Senior Special Agent. Mr. Forbes and the late Claude D. McDonald organized and instigated the famous “Operation Jackpot” drug kingpin takedown during the 1980s. Mr. Forbes and Mr. McDonald both received numerous awards for their dedicated service to the government and U.S. Customs. Mr. Forbes received The Association of Federal Investigators Financial Investigator of the Year Award on November 8, 1985, for his innovative work in the financial investigation and prosecution of drug smugglers and their underworld associates. Mr. Forbes is survived by three children, six grandchildren, and two sisters. Memorials may be made to The Shepherd Center, 2020 Peachtree Road NW, Atlanta, GA 30309-1465.
