Name Residence: Curtis F. Archer Jr. – Jacksonville,FL Date of Death: 03/18/2007 Notice Curtis F. Archer Jr., 69, passed away March 18, 2007 at his residence following a long illness. Mr. Archer was born in Jacksonville, Florida, September 30, 1937. He entered the United States Air Force July 1959, as a Lieutenant, upon his graduation from The Citadel Military College and retired as a Colonel after 30 years. In September 1960 he received his pilot wings. As a combat command pilot with over 3,300 flying hours, Col. Archer flew KC-135s and RF-4Cs during his two tours in Southeast Asia. After being deployed to Europe Col. Archer served on the NATO Joint Chiefs of Staff as Worldwide Reconnaissance Operations Officer. Upon returning to the Unites States, he served as Commander of Civil Engineering for several units. His military awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal with nine oak leaf clusters, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. His retirement years were spent enjoying golf, traveling with his wife and entertaining family and friends. His patriotism and love of his country never wavered. Mr. Archer is predeceased by his wife of 21 years Stephanie and parents Curtis Sr. and Margaret Archer. He is survived by his wife Janet of 19 years and his brother David. Other survivors include his children Daniel, Tamara and Stephanie, stepchildren Jeff, Tracey and Tim and 10 grandchildren. A visitation will be held at Hardage-Giddens, 4115 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, FL on Friday, March 23, 2007 from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, March 24, 2007 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home with Reverend Jeffrey L. Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, FL with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Curt’s honor to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257 or to the Citadel Military College, Class of 1959-Poole Scholarship IMO Curt Archer.
