1st Lieutenant Cody Lee Green, United States Marine Corps, age 26, passed away on November 1, 2025, in Oceanside, California, while stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton with the Fire Support Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, serving as a Forward Observer Officer.
Cody was born in Oklahoma City, OK, and grew up in Knoxville, TN, with his twin brother Colby and his mother, Jill Evanko-Green. The family were members of The Grace 1st Baptist Church and actively involved in their community. Cody graduated from Hardin Valley High School in 2018, where he played varsity football.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2019 and completed Boot Camp at Parris Island, South Carolina, as Honor Graduate of his platoon. He received the Chesty Puller Award for Excellence and Leadership and served as Platoon Guide, the top recruit leadership position. He was commissioned as a Field Artillery Officer (0802) and served at Camp Pendleton as a Fire Support Officer for the 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment. His service included overseas deployments to the Philippines and Australia.
Cody is survived by his mother, Jill Evanko-Green; twin brother, Colby Green; his father, Brent Green; stepmother, Dr. April McGeorge; aunt and uncle, Julie and Tim Eck; grandparents Mike and Jacky Evanko; uncle Brian Griffith; great uncles Preston and Roger Green; grandparents Roger and Jane Waters; and many other relatives and friends who were close to him. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Fred Green, great-grandfather Garvin Green, and great-grandparents Jerald and Vera Bonner.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, November 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920. Interment will follow at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery with full Marine Corps Military Honors presented by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard.
Cody’s family, friends, and fellow Marines remember him for his dedication, professionalism, and leadership, as well as his warmth, humor, and the strong bonds he formed with all who knew him. His legacy of service, loyalty, and love for his family and country will be long remembered.
