Clyde Maxwell Thompson, Jr., 80, of Savannah, Georgia, husband of Jacquelyn Ervin Thompson, died Monday afternoon, February 13, 2012, at Hospice Savannah after a long illness. Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late Clyde Maxwell Thompson, Sr. and the late Mary Upchurch Thompson. He graduated from Carlisle Military School in 1947 and graduated from the Citadel in 1953 with an AB in Political Science. He then attended Emory University School of Law from 1961 to 1963 and went on to graduate from the University of Louisville School of Law in 1966 with a JD degree. His professional history includes: The Manager of Mar-Lyn Warehouse Company, the Vice President of Chatham Transfer Company, a licensed Ocean Freight Forwarder with the Federal Maritime Commission, the Standard Oil Company distribution center, a lecturer at the Coastal Center for Paralegal Studies and a member of the Georgia National Guard. Mr. Thompson was an Attorney at Law from 1972 to 2011, a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, the Georgia Bar Association, BPOE #183 Elks Club, the Solomon Mason Lodge #1, the Savannah Citadel Club Association and a member of Faith Lutheran Church and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles W. Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jacquelyn Ervin Thompson; one son, Clyde Maxwell (Mac) Thompson III and his wife, Angie, and one daughter, Edith Wells Thompson, all of Savannah; granddaughters, Aubrey Rachael Thompson and Kirby Ashtin Thompson and one great-granddaughter, Paison Cail Thompson. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o’clock Wednesday evening at Gamble Funeral Service 410 Stephenson Avenue. The funeral service will be 11 o’clock Thursday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Peter J. Hartmann. Interment will be private.
