Clark LaBruce Freeman, sports journalist and beloved son, brother and uncle, passed away on September 12 in Falls Church, VA, surrounded by family. His decades-long career as a sports columnist and editor began at the Anderson (S.C.) Independent-Mail, then traveled to the New Orleans Times-Picayune and ended at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. His family and rich network of friends and colleagues remember him lovingly as an incisive wit, charming, kind, inexhaustibly curious and an ardent supporter of local music, not to mention an excellent golfer and tennis player. Freeman was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth LaBruce Freeman, his father, Robert Frank Freeman Sr. and his brother, Robert Frank Feeman Jr. He is survived by his sister, Laidler Freeman Campbell (Peter), nieces Robin, Amanda, and Lauren Campbell, and Leslie Kasell, and seven great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at St. James Episcopal Church on James Island in Charleston, SC.
