Mr. Milford, died Wednesday, December 7, 2005, in Charlotte. He was born May 15, 1918, in Greenville, South Carolina, the oldest child of Charles Orrin and Clara Todd Milford. He was pastor of Park Road Baptist Church for thirty-two years before retiring in 1983. Mr. Milford was a local leader in the civil rights movement and integration of the local school system, equal rights for women and for homosexual persons, unilateral world peace, decent housing for all people, and efforts to end world hunger. After retiring, Mr. Milford moved to Newland, NC, where he and his wife, the late Betty Simmons Milford, started a Habitat for Humanity chapter. Mr. Milford graduated from Greenville High School, The Citadel, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He worked as a banker, and was president of Franklin National Life Insurance Company prior to entering the seminary. Mr. Milford is survived by his wife, Carolyn Kimball Milford; his children, Louise and Ed Singleton, Charles and Marsha Milford and Barbara Milford; his step-children, Linda and Curtis DiPasqua, Christy White, Diana and Lenny LeBlanc; his sister and brother-in-law, Sara and Theron Walker; his sisters-in-law, Sara Milford and Margaret Simmons. Mr. Milford also is survived by grandchildren, Anne and Wesley Graybill, Ashley and Michael Fiore, Lynne and Buddy Skinner, Will and Olivia Singleton, Caleb Beissert and Morgan Milford; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Milford, brother Morgan Milford, brother-in-law C.B. Simmons and step-daughter Deborah Casey. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2005, at Park Road Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2005, at the Cypress Clubhouse, 3442 Cypress Club Drive in Charlotte.
