Charles (Duby) McCoy Rierson, Jr, 89, husband of Shirley Dockery Rierson, passed away on May 21, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 58 years, Joanne Stanley Rierson and his brother Ronnie Rierson. Duby was born on February 22, 1933, in Winston Salem, NC, to Charles McCoy Rierson and Sadie Lawrence Rierson. Duby graduated from the Citadel in Charleston, SC, where he was a star quarterback and third baseman for the Bulldogs. Upon graduation he joined the AirForce as an officer becoming a navigator. He retired 26 years later as a Lt. Colonel. After retirement he worked for Fruehauf Trailer Corporation and then went on to work for the State of Alabama helping veterans find employment. Later he enjoyed filling his days with bridge and travel but mostly golf. Duby is survived by his wife Shirley Dockery Rierson, his sister Jane Copple and his sons Kim Rierson of Birmingham, Chris Rierson and his wife Gayle of Albuquerque, NM, as well as his son Chuck Rierson and his wife Christie of Birmingham. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Brooke Rierson, Cole Rierson, Katie Rierson, Christopher Rierson, Luccas Greene, Sonny Nilan, Carrie Harkin, and Kimberly Rierson and 6 great grandchildren. The funeral service is pending. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
