LOWDEN, CHARLES B., 80, of Safety Harbor, died Thursday (Feb. 14, 2002) at the VA Medical Center at Bay Pines. He was born in Philadelphia and moved here after he retired from the Army with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He served in the China-Burma-India Theater in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Army, he worked for the Florida Probation and Parole Commission and the Department of Corrections. He attended The Citadel and graduated from the University of Maryland, Department of the Army Strategic Intelligence School, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the U.S. Army Counterintelligence Corps School. He was a member and past commander of the Military Order of the World Wars, life member and past president of the Retired Officers Association and was member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, the China-Burma-India Veterans Association, the Army Counter Intelligence Corps Veterans, VFW Post 10093, Safety Harbor, the Blinded Veterans Association, The Citadel Alumni Association and the Hatboro-Horsham Alumni Association. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Helen; two daughters, Ann Akers, West Virginia, and Elizabeth Radcliffe, Florida; a stepson, Greg Carlough, Palm Harbor; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
