The Rev. Charles Alvin Boland, 70, died Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Piedmont Medical Center. A Requiem Eucharist and Committal service will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 15, 2009 at The Episcopal Church of Our Saviour with the Rt. Rev. Dorsey F. Henderson, Jr., Bishop of Upper South Carolina as Celebrant. A reception will follow in Lumpkin Hall. A Requiem Eucharist will be held at 10:30 am, Sunday, January 19, 2009 with The Rev. Dr. Charles S. Foss officiating. A reception will follow in Lumpkin Hall. A native of Charleston, SC, Rev. Boland was the son of the late Herbert A. Boland and Eda Hart Boland. He was a member of The Episcopal Church of Our Saviour where he was an ordained deacon and part-time clergy member. He was a 1960 graduate of The Citadel with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and a 2008 graduate of Winthrop University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science. He was a retiree of Bowater Industries with 34 years of service. He was a member of the Geological Society of America, Carolina Geological Society, the Sierra Club and a veteran of the United States Army. His hobbies included learning, military history and going on geology field trips with his wife. The Rev. Boland is survived by his wife, Irene Brunson Boland; his son, Mark C. Boland of Rock Hill, his daughter, Rebecca Boland Ash and her husband, Michael of Rock Hill; three brothers, Herbert Boland of Summerville, SC; Richard Boland of Sunset Beach, NC and Wade Boland of Cordele, GA; and his grandson, Daniel C. Boland of Rock Hill.
