Catherine Brown Abrams, 59, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, died Tuesday, August 14, 2018. Her memorial service will be held Sunday, August 19, 2018 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 5:00 pm. Burial will be private. Catherine was born September 22, 1958 in Rochester, New Hampshire, daughter of the late Marshall Loren Brown and the late Winifred Norma Morrison Brown. She attended Culver Girls Academy, Culver, Indiana and graduated from The Kiski School in Saltsburg, PA. Catherine received her bachelor’s degree in Russian and German languages from Allegheny College, Meadville, PA and received two master’s degrees, one from The Citadel, Charleston, SC and the other from Lesley University. She spent many years visiting schools to set up book fairs for teachers before going back to school to become a teacher herself. She taught for several years, most recently at Prestige Preparatory Academy. She was an active participant in the Jewish Choral Society and sang with Koleinu at Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Synagogue. Catherine was passionate about books and education, especially teaching children to read. She, along with her family, traveled the world. She is survived by daughter, Sara Elizabeth Abrams of Charlotte, NC; son, Alexander J. Abrams (Emily) of Hamden, CT; two brothers, Marshall Loren Brown, Jr. (Denise) of Ferney-Voltaire, France and Richard Alan Brown (Sachiyo) of Carmel, IN; grandson, Jacob Aaron Abrams; and a niece and many nephews.
